It takes a special community to hold a successful book sale!! The Friends of the Cheshire Library’s recent spring book sale was a record breaker, due to the efforts of the entire community.
It starts with our generous donors who give us their gently used books, which our tireless volunteers sort by genre and then box for storage. Bill Conroy literally does the “heavy lifting”, picking up and storing the books between sales, then delivering them the day of set up.
Last Saturday, we had over 38 strong volunteers who unboxed the books for display on tables. Special thanks to the CHS Robotics team of 7 teens and 3 moms who helped. We also had some amazing book crafts made by Cherie Stenson for sale that showcased new uses for your used books.
Publicity by Linda Musco and the Library staff ensured the sale information got out to the public. The business community assisted too, with Stop and Shop donating balloons and The Big Y contributing bags for our Sunday sale. Cheshire Pizza & Ale and China Moon gave gift certificates that generated a lot of excitement for our door prizes.
Then our smiling sales staff took over, adding up the books, making change, and keeping the tables restocked and neat. Finally, we wouldn’t have a sale without our numerous customers who knew a bargain, and got fantastic deals on DVDs, CDs, audio books, and books for all ages.
We do all this to support the staff and to fund activities put on by our award-winning Library such as the Sunday concerts, children’s programs, museum passes, and the summer Reading program. The staff and programs are second to none, and truly make our library a place that “Transforms lives and strengthens the community”.
Thank you all for your support in making this sale so successful!
